Television commercials amuse me – well, most of them anyway. I mean it’s not really difficult to see what game they are playing and what string they are trying to pull to get you to buy or to buy in. But what’s really amusing (ok, and frankly a bit scary) is watching Little Man watching them.

In the past few weeks it seems that he’s really been picking up on the words – oh, yay, we’re gonna hit a Cialis or Viagra moment soon. I mean, he’ll tell you with great authority that Chevy is America’s best truck. You don’t actually even have to ask!

Tonight we experienced one of those moments where we just had to smile. The volume was down so that we could talk about something we’d just seen on the Discovery channel or maybe something Husband saw on Cribs – can’t exactly remember now.

So, we were chatting along and Little Man stops the conversation saying, “Turn it up so we can hear the Budweiser song.” I looked at the ad. No Clydesdales. No logo. No acutal beer being shown. Just grain and harvest scenes. How he knew it was a Bud commercial … wait, remembered that it was a Budwiser commercial … beyond me!

So … while I’m fairly sure that I can hold my own mind in the face of commercialism, I’d better get crackin’ on making my Little Man a critical consumer of media. I mean, we wouldn’t want him to take it for granted that Budweiser is actually the King of Beers just because someone with a pretty horse says so! Of course, when you say Budweiser, you’ve said it all!
